In May 2013 Offaly Sports Partnership introduced Fit for Life programmes all over Offaly with the intention of getting Men and Women Fit. Eamon Henry along with Pauline Curley travelled to the Parish centre on a sunny Friday night in May to start the 6 week program. 12 ladies turned up the men were shy and that was the start of Edenderry Athletics Seniors.

Following the 6 week programme those of the ladies that enjoyed it wanted to keep it up and started to plan with Pauline to introduce more people and form a Club.
In July 2013 Edenderry Athletics Seniors was officially formed and started their first Couch to 5k program. The club went from strength to strength and saw Men and Women meet up Monday, Wednesday and Friday nights at 7pm to train.
In 2015 Derry Rovers with the help of Edenderry Athletics Club were granted money from the Irish Sports Council to build the first ever running track for Edenderry. The 6 lane track was opened in 2016 and this then became Edenderry Athletics Club’s home. Up to this point in the Summer we trained in Castleview Park a housing estate beside Derry Rovers and in Winter we trained at Dunne’s Stores. 2016 saw us training 13 athletes from the club who took on Dublin City Marathon.
Our club part takes in runs all over the country from 5ks to mini marathons to full marathons and lately Ultra Marathons. We cater for all levels of fitness. Theres no pressure to run in races but we support you if you do. If you are just a person who wants to jog around or meet people and not race we also support you. We encourage every runner regardless of level to go a step further and to be the best they can.
What makes Edenderry AC special is that we welcome everyone to our club with a smile and welcome them to our big happy family.
So if you want to get fit, start running, meet new friends or just to get out of the house come join us. We promise you won’t regret it.
